A slow start, but I have more time now than I have in the past. One hopes I can update semi-regularly.

Good stuff Ken. I'd only ask for dates in all of the heading lines. It lets your reader know immediately how relavent the piece is.

Obviously, this blog has been created by an imposter. The Orcboy is never defeated. Ever. At least not by me.

I'm glad you are getting 'up to speed' with 5th ed. You seem to be enjoying yourself more, this tourney. btw, I don't remember the conversation you mentioned inspiring your Slann. What/when was it?

Go sisters of battle!
Raven
Dec 15 2009, 03:07 PM
Sisters of battle are great...but its also sad to see you dropping the Tau. Its widely considered (in my gaming club) that the Tau are in the top 3 best armies, if not THE best army...even with their 4e downfalls.

But then again, I've always had a soft spot for the ladies...

Hi, Raven
I'm not dropping them permanently -- I'm just tired of working on them for the moment. Don't worry, the Tau are much more my style than Sisters; eventually I'll get back and retool the list to more effectively optimize them for 5e, and play them again

Another Update! This one includes two sets of posts: one a Retrospective on last August 2009's Counteroffensive activities, and the second an overview of a tournament I attended last month using a Sisters of Battle list. Plenty of new year's reading

OoOoOo...the Easy Bake Oven army list. I've always wanted to try it, but as Stelek mentions on his site, its rediculously expensive to build up as most of the Sisters are metal.

A quite impressive start; especially since its a very difficult army to use. Good job!

As for how to face a horde Tyranid army, I cannot really comment until I have the concrete codex sitting in my hands. Even though there are many confirmed units out there, a great many are still un-confirmed. However, I don't expect you'll be seeing quite the same set up as your opponent employed. But rather, several spore podding groups of Hive Guard/Zoanthropes blowing huge holes in your line of rhinos with indirect fire/rear armor shots. And once thats done, Tervigon will be just moving forward, creating their own huge packs of termagaunts to claim objectives. All the while, you'll have to deal with the likes of shooty carnifexes/Mawlocs and Trygons in their feeding frenzy. All of which is nasty sauce for the Easy Bake list (my Black Templar are also dreading their return to power). Once I get ahold of the codex, I'll toss some theoretical responses your way.
I take all the tactica and advise I see with a grain of salt, but I find Stelek's stuff to generally be pretty solid. I agree with him when he says that the new codex will most certainly change the way we play our games in 5e.

Always fabulous stuff, Orcboy, but I'll ask for one correction...the Wolfhounds aren't Sallies, just a good ol' vanilla, Ultramarine successor chapter.

So, Orcboy, do you think your opponent took any of your advise to heart or is he just going to find it harder to set up good games with fun players?
The Fabulous Orcboy
Apr 4 2010, 12:17 PM
Camby -- honestly, I don't know. He's young, so it's not like it's a lost cause. But on the other hand, he's in a club (and a city) that tends to foster that kind of hyper-competitiveness. It's one of the reasons why New Yorkers sometimes come across as very ABRASIVE to folks from other places.
That said, part of the lesson is "when in rome". If I'm going to play in a club with a large number of players like that, then that kind of attitude is the norm. I'll just need to make sure to adjust, and find a good balance for me

Well Ken, at CO I'll play you if you'd like. Your surely not going to get that kind of game from me. Rules discussions, most likely, but no arguments, I promise.
Of course, you can bring your B game and still pretty much wipe the table with me.

I also thought that quote on the diagram was quite humorous. Excellent writeups as always. Beginning to become one the more looked forward to times of the month, reading these.

And of course, congrats on winning the tournament!

I too enjoyed the light humor in some of the comments, and the pictures and diagrams were useful, since battle reports that are only words with no pictures can sometimes be hard to keep up with.

Wow.

Dude, I thought only I made meat-head errors like that.

Did you at least have fun?
The Fabulous Orcboy
Jun 14 2010, 08:04 AM
It's hard for me to have "fun" when I know I've made giant meat-head errors. And my second game (the one I actually won!) was pretty un-fun, due to pace-of-game. But all things considered, I think I enjoyed myself at the tournament
