As Raven has mentioned attending and is working on an army for this very purpose, I thought I would get the ball rolling on the organization, setting of date, army choice and building, and of course, the smack talk. Proceed.....
What dates are good for everyone? If we follow tradition we would be talking about Aug 7-8 or Aug 14-15.
Tiger Raja
Jan 13 2010, 11:40 AM
Aug 14-15 would be better for me and Jr. Tigger, as we will probably be in Florida the week before.
I propose:
1) That, as we've done in the past, we try to limit the game sizes to 1500 points (unless, of course, some folks want larger games) to speed play;
2) That Sho-T contact Dream Wizards for us re. space, as BigWUSS--errr, BigDAWG

August 14-15th work for me (as well as a 1500 point limit). I'll probably be driving down, since I don't exactly have a way to carry vehicles around in stow without them getting mauled.

I'll probably be out of the country until October, but I hope you all have fun.

I also favor the 14-15 and the point limits as std. Tank, you will be missed. Also, any DW megabattles or will we follow custom and do that at de Casa de Sho-T?

A little far ahead for me to think about this yet.

Not to invite ourselves to Sho-T's, but the grilling of dogs and burgers at Pat's was a very enjoyable time.

May I recommend a bump to 1750 or 1850?
1500, to me, seems limiting in 5th.

1750 could work.
And, of course, there will be copious Jungle coverage.
Raven

So the limit is to be 1750? Is there any objections to this? It also seems to me that the 14-15th are generally the agreed upon dates for the event unless I'm mistaken. Barring a mistake on my part, I'll start to make arrangements for these days.

I talked to Doug at Dream Wizards and suggested August 14 and 15. As long as there is not a Magic release tournament then, we should be set. Is their a backup date, just in case?

Wheeeeeeeeeee! After more "surprises" at work, I'm totally looking forward to this already.
I'll bring my (revamped) Slann army (using Tau rules, of course), and also Sisters of Battle FTW!
Justiciar
Feb 23 2010, 08:47 PM
On a slightly different note, for such a "rare" army we have a large number of people on the Gate with Sisters. By my count we have Orcboy, Gnome, St. Ommervile, myself, Sho-T, and Julian. Am I missing anyone?

"Big G" and my Kurindans (Lizardmen using Nid rules) need to eat someone's army in an Apocalypse game this year. Who wants to be devoured?
Raven
Mar 5 2010, 10:54 AM
While I don't have any titans or anything of that nature (nor have I played Apocalypse before), I'm willing to give it a shot.

I'll also probably be bringing a friend with me to CO7 as well, since we're forgoing Games Day now that its not in Chicago anymore. So the sooner I can take off specific days, the better. That way I can confirm my attendance nice and early.

Apocalypse Coolness:
Just a thought; if we want to play an Apocalypse game, we should probably schedule it well in advance. To wit, figure out if there are any card tournaments (etc) that day, and just plan on spending most of the gaming day either Saturday or Sunday playing a giant Apocalypse game over multiple tables -- with additional tables for gear, casualties, special missions, etc. Realistically, this is going to be a four-six hour EVENT, and we might as well plan accordingly.
I volunteer Sho-T to come up with a suitably fluffy story and background, as well as to provide overall guidelines.

=======
If we're playing an Apocalypse game, I'll be sure to bring along enough points worth of whatever I'm bringing to make things suitably insane. And since I'm feeling the urge to put together a Tyranid army list (now that I have the new codex), I may end up joining the Kurindans... or alternatively, competing with them on a different part of the table

So one day **my** Hive Mind was, like, yo bro, your genetic constructions are totally whack, and when *your* Hive Mind was all up in my Hive Mind's grill about that universal truth, **my** Hive Mind was totally like, hey, whatever bro, we can throw down but it won't prove anything because we'd both just recycle the same biological material. If you wanna settle this we oughtta see who can eat up more NEW biomass than the other, bro.
I likee this idea. I probably will have only about 1500 points or so, but if there are other "traditional" Tyranid players who wanna team up with me, we can start at one end of the table, the Kurindans at the other, and see how far toward the middle we each can get

all we need is for someone local to the gaming store to double-check the availability of either Sunday or Saturday for this extravaganza. Realistically, we'd want at least 4 hours and some break time built in, and a good chunk of the gaming area to set up in.

With how busy I am at work and domestic stuff going on, I don't want to pretend that I will have the time. It is only March and this is not for almost 5 months but if I were to go it would be at a last minute whim and I don't foresee that since a family vacation will be occurring over the summer sometime as well.
Edit: If it is not a burden, bring your stuff and you never know. But I am looking at a job change at my place of work that may require 50% travel so can't guarantee my plans.

Mar 19 2010, 09:26 AM
Ok, we are about 5 months out now. Sho-T, any more info on firming up the date? If you could inquire about the card tournament situation it would be mucho appreciated.
Also, I think there is interest for an Apocalypse battle during the overall festivities. Seems like it will be Nids vs miscellaneous biomass. What day do we want to do that on? Sat? Sun? Or after normal game as Casa Sho-T if he is interested in hosting?
Finally, who is bringing what army? I am going to bring Nids and Night Lords (Today's beatdown is brought to you by the letter 'N') Both are under construction but I will have them finished by then if all goes well. I think the consensus is that the point value is 1750 at this point.
Thoughts? And what armies are you folks bringing to rumble with?
Raven
Mar 19 2010, 02:57 PM
The only functioning army I currently have is the Black Templars...so I'll be bringing them. I can play probably up to 3000 points with them...maybe as much as 4000.

I've never doing a Counter Offensive, so I'm game for whatever everyone decides for the gaming.

I talked to Doug at DW on Wednesday. It will be a couple more months until we know the Magic schedule (or other card games). The one problem with a "casual FREE" weekend is that the store will bump us for a money maker like a card tournament. As soon as I can confirm, I will let you all know.
As for armies, I am planning Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, and Tyranids.

Woot. We'll see how inspired I am to paint things, but I'm guessing the list will look something like:

Bonus army: Marine Dreadnought list
Backup plans: Slann (Tau Empire) and Imperial Guard

So, he's not named after the Lionel Ritchy band? The one that did "Brick House?"
WHISPER!!!
Nevermind. You're still welcome!
Second bit of business: can we unsticky the CO6 thread now? Please?
Third bit of business: I picked up a resin Bane Blade (I think that's what it is) years ago at a charity auction. Is that something that can be used with a Marine army for Apoc? If so, should I bring it to CO7 with me?

Yeah, the first time I read that line from the Lionel Ritchie Tribute alias, I was thinking that he had just outed his sister. To a bunch of strangers on a gaming forum. And I was like, "daaaaaaaaaaamn", but then my Common Sense kicked in and I tried re-reading what I had just read.

Baneblade: wonderful vehicle. Probably one of the most points-effective Apocalypse tanks, as it does really well hurting large blocks of Infantry, vehicles, etc. About the only thing it struggles with, ironically, is other super-heavy vehicles and critters.

[sarcasm]Oh, well, you know, when the other guy is playing DE in an Apoc game, you just might as well save yourself a lot of time and heartbreak and concede before anyone puts any models down. Then you can get in a few good games of Uno or maybe take in a movie with all the time you save. [/sarcasm]

I know, right? The formation that requires reaver jetbikes as well as an archon on foot with incubi, the two most points effective units in the game, is so awesome! But what really makes the formation powerful is its ability to count as flyers for the small drawback of doing nothing all turn! Man, wouldn't anyone rather lose a few units in exchange for being able to do virtually nothing? I mean, what's the point of the webway portal when you can make yourself vulnerable for two turns rather than none?
